Startups have very few resources. When you build a service without people or money, you have to compete by making one point exceptional. It is similar to how a low-budget film cannot compete on CG or cast, so it competes on one point based on an idea.

It is not uncommon to become anxious about the service or listen too much to customer requests, and then what was supposed to be one exceptional point turns into a grab bag of available things. In response, there are many times when you really have to throw things away with determination.

Also, when talking with engineers, there are cases where people try to lower software quality in favor of speed. Personally, that is a no from me. The exception is a prototype that everyone has agreed will be thrown away. That said, we must not sacrifice speed, so we still need to narrow down what to focus on and rotate that quickly. Startup engineers who have this skill can probably contribute a lot.

One exceptional point, one breakthrough point, rapid hypothesis testing. That is what matters most.
